Weston Library in Bath has reopened as
Love Weston Library
Following Bath and North East Somerset council’s decision to transfer local libraries to community groups as part of their Modern Libraries Programme, the local people of Weston have stepped forward to keep our library open.
Thanks to the support of the Weston Working Men’s Club (known locally as Weston Institute snooker and billiard club), the library has been able to stay in its historic location of Church Street, upper pavement. Following the efforts of a number of dedicated volunteers, a B&NES Council grant awarded to the team and a few months of essential maintenance work, the shelves of our library are now stocked up again and ready to welcome local residents.
The B&NES Council have run the library in Weston since the 1950s, when they first started renting the back room from Weston Working Men’s Club. Love Weston Library will continue to be supported by the Bath and North East Somerset Libraries Department, who have provided training for the volunteers and will supply the books. Love Weston Library users will be able to use their current Bath and North East Somerset library cards to borrow books and can order items in from the LibrariesWest consortium, giving them access to 2.5 million items. They can also return books borrowed from Bath Central Library and any other library in the LibrariesWest consortium.
